Veterans Day 2019

By hosting multiple events, the University of Findlay observed Veterans Day 2019 like never before. Three celebrations were offered for the campus and public on Nov. 11 to honor our country’s heroes. These events provided ample opportunity to give thanks and to learn more about military might and bravery.

PRAYER SERVICE

UF’s Campus Ministries led a prayer at the flag pole in front of Old Main. Sentiments focused on offering thanks and supporting current military members and their families.

MOVIE NIGHT

A screening of the Emmy and Telly Award-winning documentary, “A New Leash on Life: The K-9s for Warriors Story” was held in Winebrenner Building’s TLB Auditorium. The film about how the Florida-based K9s for Warriors organization provides service dogs to

post 9-11 military veterans features Cpt. Louis Belluomini and his service dog, Star; Belluomini is a regional paramedic. He, along with UF students, faculty, and staff, recently helped to raise $15,000 to sponsor a K9s for Warriors dog for a veteran in need.

Belluomini and Star, along with U.S. military veterans Adam LeGrange and Shilo Schluterman and their dogs who are also featured in the film, were on hand to answer questions.

Evening events were organized by UF’s Student Activities Board and co-hosted by the Wellness Program.

AFTERNOON CEREMONY

The University’s traditional annual observance was again held at the Center for Student Life’s Veterans Honor Wall. The ceremony’s special guest speaker was Kyle Dresbach, Pharm.D. ’14, U.S. Air Force Pharmacy Officer in Charge.

Tuskegee Airman and World War II veteran Harold Brown, a German POW survivor, received an honorary doctorate from the University.

A reading of Veterans Honor Wall names followed the program.
